Wind energy installed capacity in India was 37.6 GW as on 31/03/2020. As on 31st March 2019, the size of wind energy market size in terms of value was 29.5% of total market size for renewable energy.Inter-state wind power distribution started in August 2018.In March 2018, ReNew Power finalised a deal estimated at US$ 1.55 billion to acquire Ostro Energy and make it the largest renewable energy company in India.The National Wind-Solar Hybrid Policy was issued in May 2018.

Total investments in grid-connected wind energy technologies during the calendar year 2017 were US$ 4.0 billion. During 2018-19, approximately 58,000 jobs were created in wind energy sector. As a result of robust activities in the wind energy sector, approximately 50.87 million tonnes CO2 equivalent emissions were avoided during 2018-19.
