Installed capacity of biomass and cogeneration projects in India has reached 9.1 GW by the end of March 2019. As on 31st March, 2019 total share of biomass and cogeneration projects in terms of value in the total renewable energy sector was 31.95%.CFA promoting Biomass based cogeneration in sugar industries was issued on May 2018. It is estimated that solid biomass have created 58000 jobs in 2018.

As a result of activities in the biomass and cogeneration sector, approximately 13.38 million tonnes CO2 equivalent emissions were avoided during 2018-19.
